In 1961 George Beasley had a vision for a local radio station in the Benson Area. Mr. Beasley was principal of Meadow School at the time. On November 11th at 11:30 am of the same year the radio station become a reality. It was known as WPYB and was a 500 watt station, 1580 on the dial. In 1967, Mr. Beasley applied for an increase in power for the station and was granted 1000 watts and the dial changed to 11:30 AM. In the early seventies Mr. Beasley sold the radio station to Joe and Frank Sink and Bobby Johnson was the manager. Mr. Johnson managed the station until the death of the owners and he then purchased the radio station . In 1995 Mr. Johnson along with Almeda Johnson decided to sell to Leon and Sue Tart, now the present owners. In April 1st, 1996 , Leon become the manager of the business as his wife, Sue continued to work at First Federal Bank, her long time employer. In 2003 an increase in power was applied for and the station was granted 6500 watts. The station has served the area for over Fifty Years with gospel, country, bluegrass, oldies and religious programming. WPYB We promote your business! Lifting up God and Country!
